Drivetrain
The Yamaha FJ1200 engine used in our Legend Car (others use the FJ1250) produces approximately 130hp which is more power than the tires on this car can handle. Minor work has been done to fit the motor into the engine bay of the car and an external oil cooler is used to help keep the engine cool due to the fact it is air cooled.
From the engine there is a driveshaft adapter where the chain drive system would be if this motor were still in a bike. From the motor, the power is taken through the driveshaft to a chopped up Toyota Celica rear end. Because the gears in the transmission case are always going to be what they are now, we change out the gear in the differential to ensure maximum power down the straightaways.

Safety
Although this car is only 5/8 the size of a full size 1937 Ford Sedan, it packs the safety of a full size stock car. The car is built from the ground up on a tube chassis with a full roll cage that ensures the drivers safety in the event of a crash. A full containment seat is not required but is used by many for the added safety as well as keeps driver fatigue to a minimum. Each driver is required to wear full fire retardent safety gear from head to to and is required to use some form of neck protection. William uses a new system called Necksgen which is very similar to a HANS device but is adjustable from 10˚ to 40˚ in one device instead of four separate devices. Drivers also have a radio in their car to listen to race officials so in case of an accident the drivers not involved know where the crash is and to continue around the track at a slow speed or to come to a stop to allow safety officials on the track to get to the affected drivers immediately.
